YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team closed out their 2014 home schedule with a 5-4 win over Frostburg State in Capital Athletic Conference action on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in the league while the Bobcats fall to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
The Green and White captured two of the three doubles points to seize the early advantage. The Spartan tandem of Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) rolled to an 8-2 win in the second doubles contest. Freshmen Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) and C.J. Weigle (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) teamed up to capture the third doubles point with an 8-1 win.
The Bobcats earned a win in first singles and then a pair of three set wins in the second and third singles contests. However, the Spartans pulled out the match with victories in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches.
Hanson posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Arun Pant in the fourth singles match. Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) registered a 6-1, 6-1 win in the fifth singles match. Senior Tim DeYoung (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) closed out the team victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zawdie Coke in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans conclude their regular season on Tuesday with a trip to Middletown, PA to take on Penn State Harrisburg in a CAC contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
