YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team stepped out of conference as they fell to Southern Virginia 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans fall to 4-8 as they have lost five straight. The Knights improve to 9-8 with the victory.
The Knights captured two of the three doubles points to seize an early lead. The Spartan tandem of Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) earned a 9-7 win in the first doubles match to account for York's doubles win.
In singles play, Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) went the distance to outlast Pradeep Ravisankar as he dropped the first set 7-6 (13-11) before bouncing back to win 7-5 and 6-2.
The Knights won the second, third and fourth singles matches before Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) earned a three-set win over Adam Blocher, 7-5, 3-6, and 6-4. Brian Blocher earned a sixth singles win for Southern Virginia.
The Spartans close out their home campaign on Sunday morning when they host Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start.
