YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team snapped a three game losing skid with a 6-3 non-conference win over Gettysburg College on a chilly Thursday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 4-3 overall while the Bullets fall to 5-2.
York picked up a pair of wins in doubles play. The duo of Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Daniel Erk (Leonardown, Md./Leonardown) combined to post an 8-6 first doubles win over Dave Musser and Kevin DeRosa. Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) teamed up to record an 8-1 third doubles win as York had a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches.
In singles play, the Bullets got wins from Musser in first singles and Kyle Shope in the sixth singles match. York got early wins from Hoskins at third singles and freshman Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) as the Spartans held a slim 4-3 lead with two matches remaining on the court.
Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) dropped his first set against Mike Pratt in the second singles match. However, Rosenkrantz battled back to win the second and third sets 6-4 to secure the team victory. Erk closed out the match with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) win over Wesley Craft, providing York with the 6-3 win.
The Spartans are slated to return to action on Saturday when they host Salisbury University in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start in York.
