Men's Tennis Improves to 3-0 with Win at Catholic
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York College men's tennis team continued their strong fall season with a 5-4 non-conference win at Catholic University on Saturday afternoon in Washington, DC.
The Spartans improve to 3-0 while the Cardinals fall to 2-2.
The Green and White captured two of the three doubles points to take the early 2-1 lead. The Spartan tandem of Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Daniel Erk (Leonardstown, Md./Leonardstown) combined to record an 8-5 second doubles win. Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) then posted an 8-3 third doubles win.
The Cardinals jumped on the Spartans early in singles play as they won the first and second flights before York's Hoskins recorded a 6-3, 6-1 third singles win. The Cardinals got another win at fourth singles before Greenstein and Bullaj picked up the match clinching wins at fifth and sixth singles. Greenstein outlasted Joe Trinity 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the fifth singles match, his third victory of the year. Bullaj remained unbeaten with an easy 6-2, 6-0 sixth singles win.
The Spartans return to action on Friday at the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. The Spartans will compete as individuals at the three day tournament.
