YORK, PA - The York College men's tennis team opened up their stay in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament with an 8-1 win over Frostburg State in the opening round of the conference tournament on a breezy Saturday in York.
The Spartans improve to 12-9 overall while the fifth-seeded Bobcats conclude their season 2-13.
The Spartans swept the three doubles matches to jump out to an early lead. The first doubles tandem of Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) earned an 8-6 win in their match. Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) recorded an 8-4 win in the second doubles while Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and George Sosa (Wilmington, Del./Thomas McKean) posted an 8-0 third doubles win.
The Green and White cruised to five straight set wins in the singles. Cheatham earned a 6-1, 6-1 first singles win. Rosenkrantz notched a double bagel as he downed Arun Pant 6-0, 6-0 in the third singles match. Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) notched a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the fourth singles match while Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) posted a 6-3, 6-4 win in the fifth singles contest. Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 sixth singles win.
The Spartans advance to the CAC Semifinals where they will face top-seeded Mary Washington on Tuesday afternoon. The start time for the match will be determined on Monday.
