FROSTBURG, MD – The York College men's tennis team closed out their 2013 regular season with a 9-0 victory over Frostburg State University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon in Frostburg, MD.
The Spartans finish the regular season with a mark of 11-9 overall and 2-3 in the CAC. York will be the fourth seed in the upcoming CAC tournament. Frostburg State is now 2-11 and 1-4 in the CAC as they will be the fifth seed in the tournament.
The Spartans swept all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 lead. Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) notched a hard-fought 8-5 win in the first doubles match. Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadown, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) combined for an 8-3 second doubles win while Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) cruised to an 8-1 third doubles victory.
The Spartans won all six singles matches in straight sets. Cheatham won the first singles followed by Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) at second singles. Rosenkrantz, Greenstein, Erk and Herrera closed out the victory for York.
The win enables the Spartans to host the Bobcats in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday, April 20. The time for the match will be determined this week.
