YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad dropped their fourth straight contest as the St. Mary's College Seahawks edged the Spartans 5-4 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon in York.
Three of the four losses during the streak have been 5-4 losses as the Spartans are now 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the CAC. St. Mary's improves to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.
The Seahawks captured the first two doubles matches before the Spartan tandem of Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) combined to post an 8-4 win in the third doubles contest.
The two squads split the six singles matches. St. Mary's won the first, third and fourth flights while the Spartans earned victories in the second, fifth and sixth matches.
Senior Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mark Hardesty in the second singles match. Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) notched a 6-4, 6-1 fifth singles win while Erk recorded his second win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans close out their regular season on Sunday when they travel to Frostburg State University to face the Bobcats. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start in Frostburg, Md.
