GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College men's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 decision at Gettysburg College on a pleasant Friday afternoon.
The Spartans fall to 10-7 overall while the Bullets improve to 2-7 for the campaign.
The Bullets won the first doubles 8-3 but the Spartan duo of Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) posted an 8-4 win in the third doubles. The second doubles turned out to be a key match. The Spartan combo of Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) led 7-4 but the Bullets' Mike Pratt and Johnny Nelson rallied to capture a 9-7 win to give the Bullets a 2-1 lead heading to the singles matches.
The Bullets won the first, second and third singles matches to take a commanding 5-1 lead. The Spartans won the final three singles flights but it was not enough to earn the win.
Rosenkrantz posted a 6-2, 6-3 win in the fourth singles while Greenstein recorded a three set win in the fifth singles. Erk also notched a three-set win in the sixth singles for York.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Juniata to face the Eagles in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 2:00 pm start.
