Men's Tennis Improves to 2-0

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team continued their solid start to the 2012 fall season with a 6-2 win at Messiah College on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 2-0 overall while the Falcons fall to 1-2 for the season.

The Spartans swept the three doubles matches to get off to a great start in the match. York's number one doubles team of Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) hung on for an 8-6 win in their match. Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) also posted an 8-6 win in the second doubles match. York's Eric Cooperman (Brigewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) combined to roll to an 8-2 win in the third doubles match.

In singles action, the Spartans won three of the five matches that were contested. The fourth singles match was not able to be completed because of darkness.

Hoskins picked up York's first singles win as he notched a 6-2, 7-6(7-2) third singles win over Peter Schuck. Erk notched an 8-4 pro set victory over Derrek Hoffer in the fifth singles match while Herrera earned an 8-2 pro set win in the sixth singles match.

The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they travel to Stevenson for a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
