Towson, Md. – The York College men's tennis squad captured a 7-2 non-conference triumph over host Goucher Tuesday afternoon in Towson, Md. The victory gives the Green and White a 6-5 mark on the season while the Gophers drop to 1-14.
In York's pair of doubles wins, the Spartans only surrendered a total of two sets. At second doubles, James Villari and Philip Myers secured an 8-1 result while the tandem of Nathaniel Hoskins and Tyler Cheatham snagged an 8-1 victory in the third spot. Hoskins and Cheatham continue to put together fine performances as the sophomore duo has registered a 9-2 mark as a pair this season.
The Spartans netted five of the six singles points available taking the second through six slots. Cheatham recorded his first victory at second singles this year as he added a point to the York ledger with a straight set 6-2, 6-1 win.
Myers tallied a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in the third spot as he improves to 7-6 overall in his senior campaign. Hoskins nabbed his seventh win of the season, taking the fourth singles match 6-0, 6-0 while Villari's 6-1, 6-2 effort at fifth also brings his 2011-2012 singles win total to seven as he currently stands at 7-6.
Matthew Rosenkrantz recorded the triumph at sixth singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win. The Spartan rookie is now 8-3 on the season.
The Green and White return to action on Monday, April 9, when they host Stevenson in a 3:30 pm Capital Athletic Conference match.
