ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The York College men's tennis team picked up their seventh team victory of the season, besting St. Mary's (Md.) 6-3 in a Sunday Capital Athletic Conference tilt. With the win, the Spartans improve to 7-3 (1-2 CAC) on the season while the Seahawks drop to 6-6 (1-1 CAC).
The Green and White secured a pair of team points in doubles play, taking the second and third slots. Justin Hostetter and Ryan Harvey, a duo that has now posted a 6-3 mark together in 2011, won the second doubles match 8-3. Rookies Nathaniel Hoskins and Tyler Cheatham registered the first point of the match for York as they won the third doubles match 8-3.
In singles play, both Hoskins and Cheatham would find victory in their respective matches. Hoskins, who has posted an outstanding 10-3 record in just his freshman season, won the fourth slot 6-1, 6-1. In just his first collegiate singles match, Cheatham snagged the sixth spot with a straight set 6-1, 6-3 result.
Reigning CAC Player of the Week Travis Klein won the first singles match with a three-set 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 triumph. Philip Myers picked up his tenth victory of the season with a 6-1, 7-5 result at third singles. Myers has now posted a tremendous 10-2 singles mark this season.
The Spartans return to the court on Saturday, April 9, as York is slated to host a pair of CAC foes on that day. The Green and White begin with Wesley at 11:30 am before taking on Frostburg State at 3:30 pm.
