YORK, Pa. – The York College men's swim team downed St. Mary's by a score of 112-92 and St. Vincent by a score of 123-79, while falling to Dickinson 141-61 in quad meet action Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J./ / Pompton Lakes), sophomore Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Ca. / Rio Mesa), junior Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del. / William Penn), and junior Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./ / Carvel Academy) started the day by teaming up for a second place finish in the 400 yard medley relay with a 3:38.07 finish. The quartet would be bright spots for the Green and White all afternoon.
In individual action, junior Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa. / Ridley) posted a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle by sprinting to a 22.27 finish.
Hughes and Latchford would add to their relay performance with second place finishes as individuals. Hughes garnered a second place finish with a 49.38 in the 100 yard freestyle. Latchford got his in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing in 2L:05.44.
Stoll got in on the individual action by taking second place in the 500 yard freestyle; he posted a time of 5:03.51.
Walthall's individual success came from a place all to familiar; the breaststroke. His 2:10.34 finish in the 200 yard breaststroke was the only first place finish by the Spartans all day.
The Spartans stand at 5-2 on the season. The return to action on Saturday November, 16 at 1:00 pm when they take on Washington & Jefferson. Prior to the meet, the Spartans will be honoring their five seniors Matthew Corkwell (Piscataway, N.J. / Piscataway) on the men's side and Jenny Hinkle, Megan Murphy, Kelsie Pike, and Danielle Marino on the women's side.
