York College sophomore Kyle Walthall capped a fantastic trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship meet with a second All-American award as he finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke consolation finals on Saturday night.

The Spartan men’s swimming team (6-3-1) swam a tough meet against Rowan University (8-0) on Wednesday, but fell short. The Spartans had record performances but were unable to overcome the Rowan depth and fell 154-101.

Sophomore Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Ca. / Rio Mesa) continued his impressive season by breaking the pool record in the 100 yard backstroke, a record he set just last week. Walthall’s first place performance set the new record at 58.33.

The afternoon saw two records fall as freshman Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J. / Pompton Lakes), sophomore Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Ca. / Rio Mesa), junior Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del. / William Penn), and junior Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa. / Ridley) teamed up to set the pool record in the 200 yard medley relay; Walthall would go on to set the school record in 100 yard breaststroke.
The 2013-2014 York College men’s swimming team provides second year head coach Erin Kurtz with an abundance of talent and depth. The squad is looking to build of a third place finish in last season Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
