GLASSBORO, NJ – The York College men's swimming team fell to Rowan University Monday afternoon by a score of 166-82.
The Spartans kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The team that started with sophomore Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn), who was followed by freshman Kyle Walthall (Port Huereme, Ca/Rio Mesa), senior Andy Woods (Dover, Pa/Dover Area), and anchored by freshman Stephen Wheeler (Glen Oaks, NY/St. Francis Preparatory) turned in a time of 1:42.67.
To kick off the individual portion of the meet, sophomore Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./ Caravel Academy) turned in an 11:15.95 in the 1,000 yard freestyle event. Hughes was followed up by freshman David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake) with an 11:20.46.
Woods earned the Spartans' first victory of the evening with a 56.86 in the 100 yard backstroke race.
Walthall took the only top three spot for the Green and White in the 100 yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:00.16, good for third place.
Sophomore Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa/Ridley) chalked up points on the Spartan ledger with a 22.20 finish in the 50 yard freestyle. He then turned around and posted a second place 50.46 in the 100 yard freestyle.
The team of Wheeler, Bonner, Hughes, and Altobelli concluded the Spartan night with a second place 1:32.10 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
The Spartans, now 5-7-1, look for a strong conclusion to the season as they travel to Frostburg State for a 1:00 meet on Saturday January 19,2013.
