YORK, Pa – The York College men's swimming team defeated the host Elizabethtown College Blue Jays Saturday afternoon by a final count of 105-89.
The Green and White kicked off the meet with an outstanding victory in 1:45.12. The team consisted of Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn), Tyler Ziegler (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area Senior), Andy Woods (Dover, Pa./Dover), Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley).
Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) kicked of the day's individual events with a second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle contest with an 11:17.40. Hughes later came in second in the 500 yard freestyle race with a time of 5:21.04.
Latchford continued his strong season putting in two first place finishes. The first event came in the 200 yard freestyle, where he completed his laps in 2:03.51. In the shorter, 100 yard tilt, he posted a time of 50.38. Zielger followed Latchford's 200 yard effort with a time of 2:16.08, good for second place. Stephen Wheeler (Glen Oaks, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) followed the 100 yard effort with a second place 52.02.
Bonner looked strong as he cruised to a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, recording a time of 22.88.
Woods had a solid meet of his own, posting a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke, swimming a 2:07.30. In the next event, Woods posted a third place finish in the 50 yard freestyle event. His freestyle time was clocked at 23.90.
The men head into winter training with a 5-5-1. The next competitive action will January 12, 2013 when Ursinus dives into the York College Natatorium.
