York, Pa. – The York College men's swimming team finished 1-1 on Friday night at a home meet against Salisbury and Goucher. The Spartans earned a victory against Salisbury 112-92, but fell to Goucher 127-71.
The Green and White are now 2-5-1 so far this season.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the first event of the night, the Spartans finished in second place behind Goucher. The relay team made up of Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn), Tyler Ziegler (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area Senior), Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and Stephen Wheeler (Glen Oaks, N.Y./St Francis Preparatory) finished the race in 1:42.56.
Bonner was the top finisher for York. He earned himself a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.43. Bonner also swam 49.86 in the 100 yard freestyle and came in third. Close behind him the 100 yard freestyle was Wheeler with a fourth place finish and a time of 50.78.
Latchford also had a solid meet for the Spartans. In the 200 yard freestyle he came in second place touching the wall at 1:49.21. Later in the meet he earned another second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke swimming a 57.25.
Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) swam well in the 500 yard freestyle. He finished the race in 5:13.05 and came in third.
Ronnie Vaughan (Middletown, Ct./Middletown) earned himself a second place finish swimming a 1:04.77 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Ziegler was close behind him in third with a time of 1:05.86.
The Spartans finished the meet strong with a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Hughes, Wheeler, Vaughan and David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake) swam the race in 1:31.73.
York returns to action on Friday, December 7th in a home meet against Gallaudet and PSU-Altoona at 6:00 pm.
