YORK, Pa. – The York College men's swimming team fell to visiting Washington & Jefferson 158-102 on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Spartans fall to 1-4-1 overall.
Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn) and Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) both swam quality races during the meet. Latchford earned a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.09. He also earned another first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle swimming a 49.44. Bonner swam the 50 yard freestyle in 22.49 to help him record a first place finish. In the 100 yard freestyle Bonner came in second and had a time of 49.83.
The Spartans Tyler Ziegler (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area Senior) also swam well. Ziegler won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:05.04 and had a second place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 30.14.
Other strong performances included second place finishes by Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) in the 200 yard freestyle and Andy Woods (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) in the 50 yard backstroke. Woods also added a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke.
The Green and White also finished well in the 200 medley relay. The relay team that included Latchford, Ziegler, Woods and Bonner finished in second place with a time of 1:42.78.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, November 30 at home against Salisbury and Goucher. The meet is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.
