YORK, Pa. – The York College men's swimming team fought their way to the top over Goucher College, 114-90, and Capital Athletic Conference opponent Salisbury University, 115.50-88.50 in their meet held Friday, December 2, in York. Those victories move the Spartans to 7-2, having won their last four contests, and currently sit at 4-1 in league meets.
The Spartans found their momentum early with a first-place finish from Cody Latchford in the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 1:51.11. That success continued as Richard Janosky took first-place and Shane Bonner took second in the 50-yard freestyle race. The Spartans finished with times of 22.29 seconds and 22.50, respectively.
Senior Jack Gottschalk posted yet another victory for the Green and White as he took first in the 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 5:11.87. Gottschalk took his first-place victory in decisive fashion, beating the second-place finisher by 10 seconds.
York would also find success in their final race of the evening, the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Bonner, Gottschalk, Janosky, and Alex Diehl secured the first-place finish with a time of 1:29.74.
The Spartans look to continue their winning streak on Friday, December 9, against Gallaudet University and Penn State – Altoona. The home contest is slated to begin at 6:00pm.
