Spartans Take One of Three at Quad Meet
YORK, Pa. – The York College men's swimming squad defeated Susquehanna Saturday but came up short against both Dickinson and Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's College in a quad meet at the York College Natatorium. The Green and White bested Susquehanna 126-76 while Dickinson and St. Mary's edged out the Spartans by a count of 132-72 and 114-90, respectively. The victory coupled with the two losses gives the Spartans a 4-2 overall record in this young season, including a 3-1 mark in the CAC.
York's 400 medley relay squad of Bryant Hughes, Jamie Hicks, Andy Woods, and Steven Mercer started things off strong for the Spartans with a second-place finish as their effort resulted in a final time of 3:49.01. The Green and White remained a dominant force in the relay events as the 400 freestyle relay team of Shane Bonner, Richard Janosky, Alex Diehl, and Cody Latchford capped off the afternoon with a time of 3:22.42 which also earned them a second-place finish.
Latchford was able to build on last week's successes as the freshman came in second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.02. He later recorded a 2:04.66 in the 200 backstroke to snag fourth.
Jack Gottschalk took third in both the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle with times of 10:33.31 and 5:10.84, respectively.
Janosky secured a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle at 22.67 while Diehl posted third in the 100 freestyle with a 50.62.
The Green and White will look to rebound from their first two losses of the season and focus on the positives of today's meet as they return to training. The Spartans next host Washington & Jefferson at the York College Natatorium next Saturday, November 19, at 2:00 pm.
