ARLINGTON, Va. – In a follow up to last night's pair of triumphs, the York College men's swimming team picked up win number three on the season with a 158-90 victory at Marymount. The Saturday-afternoon Capital Athletic Conference win lifts the Spartans to 3-0 this season as each of their victories have come in-conference.
A pair of Spartan rookies put together quality performances against the Saints as Cody Latchford and Shane Bonner each notched two individual victories. Latchford, who showed exceptionally well against Mary Washington and Hood on Friday evening, won the 200 freestyle for the second straight meet as he posted a 1:51.66 in the event. The rookie later came back and won the 200 backstroke with a 2:05.40.
Bonner, who recorded his first two collegiate individual triumphs, led the Spartans in a two freestyle races with the Green and White swept 1-2-3. Winning the 50 free by just two-hundredths of a second, Bonner recorded a 23.49 to teammate Alex Diehl's 23.51. Richard Janosky came in third for York with a 23.56. Bonner led that same trio in the 100 freestyle, finishing with a time of 52.38. Janosky and Diehl switched spots as Janosky posted a 52.44 while Diehl went 52.75.
Aside from the four combined triumphs from Latchford and Bonner, York registered seven more victories on the afternoon.
Senior Jack Gottschalk captured two of those wins as he posted a 10:54.54 in the 1,000 free before finishing with a meet-best 5:18.53 in the 500 free.
Jamie Hicks and Andy Woods also registered two wins apiece, as they garnered win in their respective strokes. Hicks won both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, with times of 1:04.67 and 2:24.31, respectively. Woods' pair of triumphs came in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Swimming the 200 first, Woods clocked a 57.60 to best the field before taking the 100 event with a 56.08.
Freshman Adam Schin picked up his first collegiate victory as he took the 200 butterfly with a 2:12.51.
Diehl posted a second-place time in the 200 free with a 1:53.10 while Tyler Ziegler notched the runner-up spot in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.98.
After swimming back-to-back meets, the Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 12. The Green and White host Susquehanna and CAC foe St. Mary's (Md.) in a 2:00 pm tilt from York's Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center.
