YORK,PA – The York College men's swim team opened their 2012-13 home schedule with a 104-93 win over Marymount University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the CAC after their first weekend of competition. Marymount falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The meet was highlighted by freshman Kyle Walthall (Port Huereme, Calif./Rio Mesa) who followed up his record-breaking performance Friday night at Mary Washington with another fantastic performance today. He broke the Grumbacher Pool record in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.28. Walthall also came in second in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:52.73.
The Spartan men started the meet off strong finishing one-two in the 200 yard medley relay. Sophomore Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn) had a great meet today, picking up two individual victories. Latchford won both the 1000 yard freestyle (10:52.31) and the 100 yard backstroke (57.36). Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) followed up Latchford in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:11.83.
Hughes notched his second place finish in the 1000 Free and tacked on another second place finish in the 500 freestyle touching the wall at 5:24.78.
Ronnie Vaughan (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) helped out the Spartans with a win in the 200 IM touching the wall at 2:11.23.
Senior Andy Woods (Dover, Pa./Dover) won in the 100 yard butterfly (56.20) before his second place in the 100 yard backstroke. Woods came in second in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:02.30.
The Spartans had six total wins in the victory over the Saints.
The Green and White returns to action on Saturday, November 10 when they host St. Mary's and Dickinson in a tri-meet. The meet is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
