Spartan Men Blank Marymount in CAC Win

ARLINGTON, VA – The York College men's soccer remained red hot with their eighth straight win as they downed Marymount University 4-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Arlington, VA.
The Spartans, who are ranked second in the country according to D3soccer.com and eighth in the NSCAA poll, improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the CAC. The loss drops the Saints to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as sophomore Ryan Donahue (York, Pa./York Suburban) collected a loose ball in the box and he finished the chance just 7:05 into the game.
York added to the lead just 1:47 later as Jake Hower (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) fed Taylor Brummitt (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) off a corner kick. Brummitt blasted a shot home for his third goal of the year as the Spartans asserted control of the contest.
York struck for a third goal just prior to the half as Austin Johnson (Avalon, N.J./Middle Township) scored off a Chris Weaver (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) assist with 1:57 remaining before the half.
The Spartans outshot the Saints 15-1 in the opening 45 minutes with nine of York's attempts coming on target.
The Spartans continued their steady play in the second half. The Green and White closed out the scoring when Weaver found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year in the game's 65th minute. Christopher Gillespie (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) earned the assist on the goal.
York finished the game with a 29-4 margin in total shots including a 13-2 edge in shots on goal. York also had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Brad Schmidt (Moorestown, N.J./Delran) started the game and played the opening 45 minutes in net for York. Schmidt earned the win with one save. Charlie Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) played the second half and maintained the Spartans' clean sheet with one save.
Logan Cropper started the game for the Saints in goal. He allowed three goals while he registered seven saves in 45 minutes of work. Kurt Michaels played the second half for Marymount and notched two saves with one goal allowed.
The shutout for the Spartans is their second straight and their ninth clean sheet of the year.
York returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host St. Mary's College in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time at Graham Field is set for 4:00 pm.
