YORK, Pa. – The York College men's soccer team has started a new team tradition. The Spartans have begun to make a monthly trip to visit patients at the York Hospital pediatric unit.
"It has been a great experience," said head coach Mark Ludwig. " It has really had an impact on not only the patients, but also our players as well. We hope to continue this program and the opportunity to give back to the York community."
So far, the Spartans have made two trips to the pediatric unit. During their trips, the players bring small gifts from the soccer program, as well as sign autographs and take time to sit down and talk with the patients.
"We understand that there are many locals who come out and support us during the season," said men's soccer player Matt Yackel. " We want to show our appreciation by getting involved and we feel like visiting the kids at York Hospital is a great way to do it."
The Spartans plan on returning to the hospital for another trip in April.
