Shots (on goal)
YORK, PA - The York College men's soccer team captured the 2011 Holiday Inn Conference Center Classic with a 4-0 victory over McDaniel College on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 3-2 on the season with their third straight win at home this season.
Eric Mackin scored his second goal in as many games in the 20th minute on a cross off the foot of Antonio Bua. Pablo Martinez found Bua on the right sideline, who attacked and served in a quality ball for Mackin to finish.
Less than ten minutes later, the Green and White struck again off the head of Taylor Brummitt. From the right side of the pitch, Matt DeLong found Brummitt who headed home his first goal of the season in the 28th minute.
In the 62nd minute, York tallied their third of the contest, this time off of a set piece. From just outside the penalty area, senior captain Mike Gill played a ball outside to Bua who served it across the face of goal. Michael Andrei proved in the right place at the right time as he was credited with his first goal of the 2011 campaign.
For his tremendous play in the Spartan attack over the weekend, Bua was named the tournament's MVP. The junior had three assists in two games including two in the championship tilt. York proved on the attack throughout the match, firing 22 shots throughout including seven on target in the contest.
In remembrance of the tragic events from September 11, 2001, the Spartans wore "We Will Never Forget 9-11-2001" during their warm up period prior to today's contest.
The Green and White take on Marymount in their first Capital Athletic Conference match next Saturday as they travel to Arlington, Va. for the 11:30 am conference match. They then travel to Johns Hopkins before returning home on September 24 to host Wesley College in the Spartans' first CAC home game of the season.
