Spartans Remain Perfect in CAC Play with 3-0 Win

DOVER, DEL – The York College men's soccer team kept rolling in Capital Athletic Conference play as they blanked Wesley College 3-0 in league action in Dover, Delaware on Saturday night. The Spartans remain perfect in the CAC with a 6-0 mark while they rise to 12-4 overall. The Wolverines fall to 1-5 in the conference and 4-10-1 overall.

The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as Justin Facer recorded his fifth goal of the season just under 20 minutes into the game. Junior Kemal Nuspahic earned the assist on the goal, his team-leading sixth helper of the campaign.

The Spartan defense and goalie Jesse Derksen played well in the opening half to keep the Wolverines off the board. Derksen notched three of his five saves in the opening 45. The Spartans outshot the Wolverines 7-5 but Wesley had three of their five shots on target.

The Spartans carried their 1-0 lead deep into the game despite peppering Wesley goalie Nick Talarico with 20 second-half shots. Talarico was under constant pressure in the second stanza as the Spartans were playing a crisp offensive game. Talarico recorded 10 second half saves before Spartan senior Mike O'Connell padded the Spartan lead with his fourth goal of the year, an unassisted tally with 8:12 remaining in the match.

York's Mike Gill provided for the final margin just 1:48 later as he banged home his fourth goal of the year to cap the scoring.

The Spartans dominated the game statistically as they outshot their hosts 27-8 including 15-5 in shots on goal. The Green and White also had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Derksen earned the win with five saves in his 89 minutes of work. The clean sheet was the Spartans 11th of the year. Talarico registered 12 saves in his time in goal for the Wolverines.

York returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they host Gettysburg College in a non-conference contest. The match will be the Spartans' first annual "Give Cancer the Boot" game as there will be special fundraisers for the battle against Breast Cancer with all proceeds going to cancer research. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
