RADNOR, Pa. – The #8 York College men's soccer squad improved their early 2010 season mark to 2-0 Saturday afternoon as they topped host Cabrini 3-1. The Spartans remain flawless while the Cavaliers drop to 0-2 on the season.

Mike Gill got the Green and White on the board within the first 20 minutes. In exciting fashion, the Spartan captain ripped a 40-yard pill that flew into the upper-right corner of the Cabrini goal, giving York an early 1-0 advantage.

A pair of newcomers combined to give the visitors their second, and eventual game-winning tally, right before the end of the first half. Douglas Moore, who had played well at the end of the Spartans' 1-0 overtime win against Susquehanna, served a ball into the box where Chris Weaver headed home the score – his first in a Spartan uniform.

Gill etched his name into the scorebook once more on the afternoon, but this time via an assist. In the 56th minute, Gill placed a ball to standout sophomore Antonio Bua who one-timed his attempt into the back of the net, Bua's first of the season.

With only 3:06 remaining however, the Cavaliers spoiled York's bid for their second consecutive clean sheet. Cabrini's C.J. Doherty crossed a service into the box where Anthony Girolamo finished off a one-timer of his own to cut the Spartan margin to the final 3-1 result.

For the contest, the Spartans outshot their opponents 26-5 including a 17-2 bulge over the first 45 minutes. York also notched six corner kicks to zero for the home squad.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Derksen picks up the win in the Spartan net as he made two saves during his 64:44 of work. Ethan Kavanagh relieved Derksen and manned the pipes for the final 25:16. Mike Viscariello suffers the loss in the Cavalier goal as he posted nine saves over his 90 minutes of action.

The Spartans now sets their collective sight on Wednesday, September 8, as the Green and White play their first home match of the 2010 season. The Spartans are set for a top-ten clash with #10 Johns Hopkins with game time slated for 4:00 pm from York's Graham Field.
