YORK, PA – The York College men's lacrosse team welcomes a familiar foe to York for Saturday's NCAA Division III Third Round as the Washington & Lee Generals come to town for a 5:00 pm face off. The Spartans and Generals met on February 9 in York with the Green and White edging the Generals 7-6.

LAST TIME WE MET
You only have to go back 19 games to find the last time these two teams met as both squads opened the year in York as the Spartans recorded a slim 7-6 win at Kinsley Field. The teams were tied at four at the half and the Spartans outscored the Generals 3-1 in the third quarter to provide for the winning margin. The game was the lowest scoring output for the Generals for the entire year as Washington & Lee failed to get to double digits just twice this year.
The Spartans outshot the Generals 38-31 while the Generals had a 36-34 advantage in ground balls. Washington & Lee's Jack Taylor was outstanding in goal with 16 saves while Spartan freshman Jack Michael was making his collegiate debut and was also stellar in net with 10 saves and just six goals allowed.

Taylor Witherell led the Generals with a pair of goals while Ben Mullholland chipped in with a goal and an assist. Nick Anders dished out a pair of assists in the game.
SPARTANS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Spartans making their fifth tournament appearance and the Spartans are 7-4 in their previous four appearances … all five of the Spartans' trips to the NCAA tournament have come under the guidance of head coach Brandon Childs … the Spartans are 6-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament at Kinsley Field … York hosted Washington & Lee in 2016 as York earned a 12-5 second-round win over the Generals on May 14 ... the Spartans lead the all-time series against the Generals 4-3 as York has won four in a row against the Generals.
The York College men's lacrosse team placed a school-record tying nine players on the two All-Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse squads as announced Monday afternoon by the league office. In addition to the nine players, head coach Brandon Childs was named the CAC Coach of the Year and freshman goalie Jack Michael was named the league's Rookie of the Year. Childs earned the award for the third year in a row and the fourth time overall in his Spartan career. Michael is the second Spartan to earn the Rookie of the Year award joining Tyler Hutson in 2014. The Spartans had five players earn first-team All-CAC honors. Seniors Hunter Davis, Thomas Pfeiffer, Brad Casale, J.D. Beck, and Kevin Witchey were all recognized as first-team all-stars. Senior Billy Sasso, freshman Jack Michael, and juniors Danny O'Connell and Nick Roman were picked as second-team honorees.
The Spartans have a number of players whose names are all over the all-time career lists … senior Thomas Pfeiffer is first in assists (96), second in points (258), third in goals (162), and is third in man-up goals (24) … senior Hunter Davis is first in game-winning goals (27), second in goals (167), is second in man-up goals (25), third in points (232), and eighth in assists (65) … senior J.D. The winner of today's game advances to the national quarterfinals (Elite Eight) where they will face the winner of Saturday's Cabrini/Springfield third round game on Wednesday, May 15. The site and time will be determined by the NCAA once the match up has been decided. Cabrini and Springfield are set for a 1:00 pm start in Randor, Pennsylvania.
