DOVER, Del. – The No. 17 ranked York College men's lacrosse team dispatched Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Scott Miller Stadium by a final score of 13-5.
Wesley tallied the first goal of the contest 48 seconds in to the first quarter, but that goal woke up the Spartan offense as it ripped off three straight tallies courtesy of James Lowe (Monrovia, Md. / Urbana), Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) and Andrew Gamble (Easton, Md. / Easton).
Gamble finished the first quarter scoring on a Hutson helper to put York ahead 4-2.
The second quarter had much of the same story as the first with Wesley tallying the first goal and then York responded with four unanswered goals. Seth Krolus (Westminster, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) got in on the scoring action with his ninth goal of the season, while Tyler Davis (Finksburg, Md. / Westminster) dished out three of his four assists in the second quarter.
While being out-shot in the second half, York still managed to out-score Wesley 5-2 and had three of its seven different scorers, Taylor Tolbert (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg), Joseph Joseph (Hollywood, Md. / St. Mary's Ryken) and Jamie Lilly (Davidsonville Md. / St. Mary's Annapolis), tally goals.
Caleb Abney (Forest Hill, Md. / Fallston) earned the victory in goal for the Spartans, allowing five goals and making four saves.
With four tallies in today's game Gamble improves his conference-leading total to 38, while Gamble 37 goal total is good for second and his 51 point total is good for third in the CAC.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday as they face conference foe St. Mary's College (Md.) at 4 p.m. from Kinsley Field.
