Davis and Abney Named CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week
YORK, PA - York College junior attack Tyler Davis (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) and sophomore goalie Caleb Abney (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) were both named Capital Athletic Conferece Players of the week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Davis, who shared the weekly award with Salisbury's Brandon Kendrick, had a game-high six points in the Spartans 11-10 double overtime win over nationally ranked Mary Washington on Saturday in York. Davis tallied two goals in the final 20 seconds of the first quarter to give the Spartans a 6-3 lead. Davis assisted Tyler Hutson on the next Spartan goal. Davis scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter, tying the game at nine before he assisted Hutson on the goal that gave York a 10-9 lead and then again in overtime as he found Hutson for the game-winner with 2:52 left in the second extra session.
Davis leads the Spartans with 28 points on 12 goals and a team-leading 16 assists in seven games.
Abney was fantastic in the Spartans' 11-10 double overtime win over Mary Washington as he tied a school record with 27 saves. Abney came up huge in the fourth quarter and overtime as he recorded eight saves in the final 15 minutes of regulation and followed that with four huge saves in the first overtime of the game.
Abney played 60:31 of the game and combined with James Anderson (Pasadena, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) to established a new school record with 29 combined saves in the win. Abney improves to 6-1 for the season and he is now 16-4 in his two years as a Spartan.
