Tyler Hutson Named All-American

YORK, PA – York College sophomore attack Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was named USILA All-American as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Hutson was named to the second-team.

Hutson becomes York's second USILA All-American in Spartan men's lacrosse history. Former defender Steve Mersinger earned honorable mention accolades after the 2009 season.

Hutson was nothing short of fantastic as a sophomore for the Spartans. He earned the Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year award, just one year after being named the conference's top rookie. He is now a two-time All-CAC selection.

Hutson finished the season with a school-record 78 points on a school-record 58 goals. Hutson also had 20 assists and 31 ground balls for the season. He fired off 155 total shots with 106 of those attempts coming on target as he shot 37.4% for the year.

Hutson led the CAC in scoring as he had a 17-point edge on second place while his goal total was 15 more than the next highest player in the conference.

Spartan head coach Brandon Childs was happy to see his sophomore standout earn the national honor.

"Tyler had a very good sophomore year but the great thing about him is that he will continue to work hard and come back next year an even better player," said Childs. "He has a number of things he wants to work on and improve upon. It's a great blessing to have your best player also be one of your hardest workers. I am happy that he got recognized nationally but I also think this is a credit to the players who are around him."

Hutson's name is near the top of the Spartans' record book after only just two years of play. He now has 145 career points on 109 goals and 36 assists in just 33 games. He ranks third in all-time points and enters next season just 30 points out of first place. Hutson's 109 goals tie him for second place, 12 goals away from taking sole possession of first place.

Hutson headlines a talented group of Spartans that are slated to return next year as eight of York's nine double figure scorers and a number of other key players will be back in the Green and White in 2014.
