Men's Lacrosse Earns Third Straight Win with Victory at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The York College men's lacrosse team ran their win streak to three as they defeated Christopher Newport University 12-9 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon in Newport News, VA.

The Spartans improve to 6-4 overall while the Captains fall to 3-6 with the loss.

The first quarter was low scoring as a pair of Captain goals sandwiched a Marcus Coppola goal at the 3:43 mark. Coppola's goal came off an assist from Andrew Thomas as the Spartans trailed 2-1 after one quarter of play.

The second quarter featured offensive fireworks as the teams combined for nine goals in the period. Senior Jimmy Langton opened the scoring in the frame as he picked up a goal off a Tyler Hutson pass just 1:03 into the quarter. The Captains answered with a three-goal spurt as they took a 6-5 lead just prior to the half. The Spartans got a Hutson man-up goal with 44 ticks left in the half, sending the two teams to the half tied at six.

York seized control of the game out of the half as they fashioned another three-goal spurt fueled by Langton. Langton started the run with a man-up goal with 9:55 remaining in the period. Hutson scored 2:59 later off a pass from Langton. The Spartan senior then capped the run with a pass off a Seth Krolus at the 4:43 mark.

The Captains got an unassisted goal with 1:31 remaining but Hutson scored just seven seconds later to give York a 10-7 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The two squads traded goals in the fourth as York secured the three-goal win.

Langton recorded a season-high six points on four goals and two assists to power the Spartans. Hutson added four goals and one assist for five points while Nick Bach, Coppola, B.J. Blaker, and Jake Beneke each added one goal for the Spartans.  Krolus, Tyler Roy, and Hogan Ross each collected four ground balls to pace York.

Glaser paced Newport with four goals while Rob Koster chipped in with two goals and the Captains' lone assist in the loss. Ari Eigort had 11 ground balls while he also won 16-of-23 face offs for CNU.
