York Tops St. Vincent in Saturday Tilt

LaTROBE, Pa. – The York College men's lacrosse team posted an 18-3 triumph Saturday afternoon over host St. Vincent in LaTrobe, Pa. With the non-conference victory, the Spartans improve to 3-2 on the season while the Bearcats drop to 1-3 overall.

Tyler Hutson tallied a game-high four goals for the Green and White as he posted each of his four goals over the first three quarters. The rookie standout has now registered a Spartan-best 18 tallies on the season.

In addition to Hutson's efforts, York sported four more players who scored at least two goals on Saturday. Seth Krolus, Tyler Davis, John Powell, and Justin Aita each recorded two tallies apiece while they also each contributed with one assist. Nick Bach scored one goal and distributed a pair of helpers.

The Spartans opened the game with three straight goals, courtesy of Krolus, Corey Cooke, and Hutson, grabbing a 3-0 lead with 5:30 remaining in the first quarter.

Up 5-1 through the first 15 minutes, the Green and White opened up a 9-2 advantage by the end of the second quarter. Hutson and Davis each registered two goals in the second period as the Green and White owned a sizable 9-2 margin at the break.

That lead grew in the second half as the Spartans outscored their hosts 9-1 over the final 30 minutes.

Hutson opened the second half scoring with and unassisted tally with 9:09 remaining in the third quarter. Following a St. Vincent goal, Aita posted his first of the day with 6:11 to go in the stanza.

The fourth quarter proved all York as the Spartans registered seven unanswered goals during the period. Andrew Warburton, Sterling Long, Powell, and Adam Knox closed out the attack for the Spartans, recording York's final four tallies.

For the game, the Spartans outshot St. Vincent 46-24 while they also held a 35-30 edge in ground balls. Of York's 18 goals, eight were delivered by way of an assist.

Defensively, freshman Hogan Ross caused three Bearcat turnovers while he also picked up a trio of ground balls. Krolus notched a game-high six ground balls for the Green and White. Tyler Powell collects the win in the cage as he recorded 13 saves over his 45 minutes of work. Dylan Heath and Joey Bellavia combined to close out the final 15 minutes as they each recorded a pair of stops.

York returns to action on Wednesday, March 14, as the Spartans begin their 2012 Capital Athletic Conference slate. The Green and White travel to Owings Mills, Md. to take on #4 Stevenson in a 7:00 pm midweek tilt.
