#2 Sea Gulls Down Spartans
SALISBURY, Md. – The York College men's lacrosse team suffered an 18-7 loss to #2 Salisbury on Wednesday in Capital Athletic Conference action. With the defeat, the Spartans fall to 9-3 and lose their first CAC contest of the season, dropping to 5-1 in league play. The national powerhouse Sea Gulls remain unbeaten and improve to 12-0 and 5-0 in the conference.
Salisbury jumped out front early, notching five goals in the first quarter. That 5-0 lead stretch to 7-0 as the Sea Gulls scored the first two of the second frame.
Spartan senior attack Josh Gamble stemmed the tide with his first of two goals on the day. With 7:03 left in the second quarter, Gamble finished on an assist from Jimmy Langton. That would be as close as the Spartans would come however.
Salisbury embarked on a nine-goal spurt that spanned the remainder of the second half and the entire third quarter. With that performance, the Sea Gulls took a 16-1 lead into the final period.
York showed quality heart over the final 15 minutes, scoring six goals in the quarter. Justin Aita notched a pair of tallies in the frame while Gamble, B.J. Blaker, Adam Cooper, and James Lowe each added one. However, that would not be enough to overcome the late deficit as Salisbury secured the 18-7 CAC triumph.
The Spartans will look to return to the win column on Saturday, April 9, as York is slated to host Christopher Newport University in a 12:00 pm non-conference tilt. Prior to the contest, the Green and White will honor their 12 senior student-athletes for their contributions to the Spartan program.
