YORK, Pa. –Jimmy Langton and John Dubois combined for eight goals Saturday as the York College men's lacrosse team posted an 18-8 Capital Athletic Conference triumph over visiting Wesley. The Spartans, winners of each of their last five, improve to 9-2 overall and a flawless 5-0 in league play while the Wolverines drop to 4-8 and 1-4 in the CAC.
Langton and Dubois each notched four goals for the Green and White while also registering an assist apiece. Langton, who has made a tremendous impact in his first season with the Spartans, now leads the squad with 25 goals on the year while Dubois increases his season mark to 19 tallies.
Senior attack Josh Gamble, who posted three goals for York, got the Spartans on the board first with the game's opening score just 1:04 into the contest.
After Wesley knotted up the game at 1-1, the Green and White put together one of their most impressive scores of the year. After a Wolverine shot, junior goalkeeper Tyler Powell made the save and sent the outlet pass. Shortly thereafter, Jason Underwood was nearly checked out of bounds on the left sideline but was able to heave the ball toward Wesley's defensive third in an attempt to complete the clear. Athletically, James Lowe reached up and snagged the toss before finding Jake Beneke in the middle of York's offensive third. Beneke swiftly threw a pass to the right where an awaiting Langton ripped a shot that found the back of the Wolverine net. That inspiring tally, with 3:51 to play in the first, gave the Spartans a 3-1 lead after one.
Following a Wesley score by Scott Brozey to begin the second frame, the Spartan offense erupted for seven goals in the quarter. Dubois tallied back-to-back scores to give the Green and White a 4-2 lead, one they would not relinquish.
Owning a 9-3 lead heading into the break, York added nine more tallies over the final 30 minutes of play. Langton and Dubois each notched two of their four in the second half while B.J. Blaker got in on the offensive action with a pair of goals.
With 10:20 remaining in the fourth quarter, Brozey's third of the day brought the visitors to within five at 13-8. But that is as close as the Spartans would allow their guests to come. York finished the contest with five unanswered tallies to secure the final result.
Aside from his offensive prowess, Dubois was also 11-for-16 in face-offs, becoming a main choice for the Spartans as of late, while also picking up 11 ground balls.
York now puts their undefeated conference record on the line against Salisbury. The Spartans travel to the Sea Gulls on Wednesday, April 6, for an under-the-lights 7:00 pm CAC tilt.
