Spartans fall to St. John Fisher in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – The York College men’s lacrosse
squad suffered their third loss of the 2010 campaign in Wednesday's
neutral-site contest, falling to St. John Fisher 12-8 in
Greensboro, N.C. The Spartans fall to 1-3 on the season while the
Cardinals begin their season with a 1-0 mark.
St. John Fisher came out of the gate roaring as they opened the
game with a 5-0 run. Kyle Denhoff, who would go on to tally a
game-high six goals, scored three of the Cardinals’ first
five.
Down 5-0 by the 5:30 mark in the first quarter, the Spartans
displayed periods of fight as they attempted to claw their way back
into the contest.
Josh Gamble (Easton, Md./Easton) opened
York’s scoring with 4:42 remaining, posting the first of his
three goals on the day, to draw the Spartans to within four a
5-1.
The second quarter proved the Green and White’s best as York
outscored the Cardinals 4-2 in the frame. Ryan McNicholas
(Fallston, Md./Fallston) began the spurt with a goal from
a Gamble assist with 12:41 to go in the half. After another Denhoff
score, Gamble netted his second of the game at the 9:22 mark.
Fisher’s Ryan Schmidt would add another to his squad’s
total to make the game 7-3 with 6:29 to go in the half.
McNicholas closed out the frame with back-to-back goals, including
one with a mere 17 seconds left, to bring York to within two at
7-5.
Despite the Green and White’s second quarter push, the
Cardinals would quickly regain momentum in the third quarter,
posting the half’s first two scores.
The Spartans could only manage three goals in the latter half,
while St. John Fisher netted five to secure the 12-8.
For the game, both sides registered 29 shots while the Cardinals
