Spartans Conclude Day One at NCAA Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, KY. – The Spartan men's golf team concluded their first round today at the NCAA Division III Championships at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Tyler Newton and Casey Leebrick led the way for the Spartans individually as both posted 3-over on the first round. Newton started his round with an even par first nine holes including a birdie on the par-four 16th as all the Spartans began their rounds on the back nine. Newtown would pick up three bogies on the front nine to finished with a 3-over 75. Leebrick also finished the round with a 3-over 75 as he picked up a pair of birdies on the day. Leebrick was 2-over through nine holes with a birdie on the par-five 11th. He would then shoot 1-over on the front nine with a pair of bogeys and a birdie of the par-four 5th.

Luke Fayocavitz shot a back-nine 41 to start his day and a front-nine 42 as he concluded his first round with an 83. Joel Marshall and Matthew Chalupa each finished with a first round score of 85 for the day. Chalupa was just three-over on the back nine with a birdie on the par-four 13th, but had some struggles on the front nine to bring him back.

The Spartans as a team finished the first round with a team total of 318. York will be back in action tomorrow for round two.
