SAVANNAH, GA – The York College men's golf squad opened their spring campaign with a 15th place finish at the highly competitive Club at Savannah Harbor Classic hosted by Emory University on Monday and Tuesday in Savannah, Georgia.
Huntingdon College won the event with a two-day total of 586. Methodist finished second at 591 followed by Hampden-Sydney (595) while Emory and Greensboro tied at 598 to round out the top five.
The Spartans finished with a two-day total of 638. They shot a 321 on Monday and improved by four shots on Tuesday.
The Spartans were led by senior Tyler Newton as he finished tied for ninth with a two-day total of three-over-par 147. Newton fired a one-under-par 71 on Monday and then shot a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday.
Freshman Casey Leebrick was York's next finisher as he tied for 24th with a score of 151. Leebrick shot 73 on Monday followed by a 78 on Tuesday. Sophomore Luke Fayocavitz was York's third finisher as he shot a total of 165. Fayocavitz shot an 89 on Monday but played much better on Tuesday as he was four-over with a 76.
Sophomore Joel Marshall was the Spartans' final scorer in the tournament as he finished with a two-day total of 175. Marshall shot an 86 on Monday and an 87 on Tuesday as he finished 87th in the field.
The Spartans return to action on Monday, March 11 when they travel to South Carolina to participate in the Adidas Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Dataw Island Club in Dataw Island, SC. The two day tournament kicks off at 8:30 am on Monday.
