Saints Down the Spartans in CAC Play

ARLINGTON, VA – The York College Spartans ended their four game road swing with a 61-50 Capital Athletic Conference setback at Marymount University on Wednesday night in Arlington, VA.

The Saints improve to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 1-11 and 0-5 in the league.

The Saints sprinted out to an early 7-0 lead as the Spartans struggled to get on track. York, much like they have all year, responded by scoring 15 of the game's next 22 points to take a 15-14 lead with 7:06 left in the half. The Saints answered with another 7-0 spurt as they took a 22-15 lead. The Spartans cut the lead to four on a Ryan Beaver (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) triple but the Saints scored seven of the final nine points of the half to take a 29-20 lead to the break.

Marymount pushed the lead to 11 early in the second half but York went on a quick 6-0 spurt, including a four-point play by freshman Tyler Alcid (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), to draw to within four at 34-30. Marymount quickly pushed their lead back to nine before the Spartans ripped off six straight points to cut their deficit to 39-36. That would be as close as York would get. The Saints built their lead to 14 at 56-42 with 4:33 left. York continued to battle as they cut the lead to eight inside the final minute but it wouldn't be enough as the Spartans dropped their 11th straight decision.

Antonio Rouse led the Saints with 14 points, five assists, and five rebounds in his 35 minutes of action. Michael Anderson added 13 points, all of which came in the second half, while senior Reed Scott recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Mike Mathews (Newark, Del./Salesianum) and freshman Dalton Myers (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) led the Spartans as they had 10 points each. Senior guard B.J. Enck (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) added eight points for York.

The Saints outrebounded York 37-26 and held a 13-7 margin in second chance points.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they host Salisbury University in a CAC contest. Tip time from Wolf Gymnasium is set for 3:00 pm.
