YORK, PA – The York College athletic department will be hosting a Military Appreciation Day during the Spartans' men's and women's basketball doubleheader on Saturday, January 14, 2012 when the Spartans are slated to take on Salisbury University.
The Spartans wanted to recognize the efforts of our United States Military personnel. York is offering free admission to all patrons attending the double header. York wants to encourage fans to attend and celebrate the efforts of our current and former service men and women.
The day will feature contributions from Color Guard from Company C, the 328th brigade support battalion, the 56th Stryker brigade combat team of the 28th infantry division. There will also be military displays throughout the Grumbacher Center during the games.
"We are proud to be able to honor our service men and women during our doubleheader," says Scott Lehman, the event organizer and a manager of the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. "We are so thankful for the sacrifices that they have made for our country. We wanted to be able to give back to them in a small way. We are offering free admission to all fans so they can join us in recognizing our service people."
Sergeant Sara Mancuso, an Iraq War veteran, will be the Spartans' special guest performer as she is singing the national anthem prior to the games.
"We are looking forward to recognizing our veterans and having a great day of basketball," stated Lehman.
The day tips off with the Spartans' 2:00 pm men's game followed by the ladies contest at 4:00 pm.
