Spartans Fall at #14 Cabrini

RANDOR, PA – The 14th ranked Cabrini College Cavaliers got back on the winning side of the ledger with an 83-66 victory over the York College Spartans on Wednesday night in Randor, PA. The Cavaliers, who lost their first game of the year last Friday night at Centre College, improve to 10-1 overall while they also have extended their home win streak to 34 games.

The Spartans fall to 7-6 overall with the setback. The contest was York's final non-conference contest of the year.

The Cavaliers got off to a strong start in the game. After the Spartans tied the game at five, Cabrini outscored York 20-8 over the next eight minutes to forge a 25-13 lead. The Cavaliers extended the lead to 17 before York trimmed the Cabrini advantage to 11 with just 1:06 left in the half. The hosts scored the final four points of the half to take a 42-27 halftime lead.

The Spartans came out of the break and trimmed the Cavalier lead to nine thanks to an 8-0 run early in the stanza. Cabrini went on a prolonged 18-7 run, increasing their lead to 20 at 62-42 with 11:59 remaining in the game. York cut the lead down to 12 after a 10-2 run but that is as close as the Spartans would get the rest of the way.

Senior Mo Oursler led the Spartans as he registered a season-high 19 points including five three pointers. Oursler was 6-for-15 from the floor and 5-for-11 from three while he also nailed both of his free throws. He also pulled in five rebounds in his 26 minutes of work. Junior Julian Watson was the third Spartan in double figures with 13 points as he was 6-for-11 from the field and an uncharacteristic 1-for-4 from the stripe. Watson recorded six rebounds while he also had a steal in the loss.

Cabrini was powered by Jeremy Knowles as the junior came off the bench to score 21 points in just 25 minutes of work. Knowles was 7-for-15 from the floor including 5-for-11 from three. All-American Cory Lemons contributed 19 points, eight assists, and five rebounds in a very solid all around effort. Cabrini shot the ball well all night long. The Cavaliers converted 51% of their attempts from the floor while they went 11-for-28 (39%) from three. Cabrini made 6-of-9 (67%) from the charity stripe.

York shot just 35% for the game as the Spartans have not reached 40% shooting in the last three games after shooting a season-high 56.9% in the December 13 win over La Roche. York converted 6-of-19 (32%) from three while they knocked down 16-of-24 (67%) from the line.
