NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The York College golf squad sits third of seven teams after the opening day of the 2015 Capital Athletic Conference championships at James River Country Club in Newport News, Virginia.
The Spartans combined to shoot an opening round 320 as they are 15 strokes back of second place PSU Harrisburg and 35 strokes back of team leader Christopher Newport. The Captains went a combined five over par as they found their home course quite hospitable during Saturday's opening round.
William Paterson sits fourth while Marymount is fifth after day one.
Junior Ryan Wolbach (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) led the Spartans as he fired a six-over-par 76 as he is currently tied for sixth. Wolbach went three over on each nine. He had three birdies, seven bogeys and one double on his round.
Senior David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) and junior Tyler Keim (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) each shot 81 for the Green and White. Boslough was just two over on the front but had a pair of double bogeys on the back side to finish up with a 44 on his second nine.
Keim was one-over-par through five holes but bogeyed seven, eight and nine to make the turn in 39. Keim shot a seven-over-par 42 on the back for his 81.
Alex Colton (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) was the Spartans' final scorer on Saturday as the sophomore carded an 82. He shot identical 41's on both nines.
The Spartans conclude the championships on Sunday morning as the teams will return to the course to decide the conference champion.
