ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – The York College golf squad fired a team score of 315 during the opening day of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic hosted by McDaniel College at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA.
The Spartans had three players record rounds in the 70's led by senior David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail). Boslough carded a four-over-par 76. The Spartan senior shot two over on the front and on the back to complete his round. Boslough had his lone birdie of the round on the par three 11th hole.
Freshman Brandon Hur (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) and sophomore Alex Colton (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) each fired seven-over-par 79's. Hur finished five over on the front but rebounded nicely as he shot 38 on the back. Hur birdied his opening hole, the par four first, but couldn't manage another as he continued his stellar play for the Green and White.
Colton matched Hur with a 41 on the front and a 38 on the back for his 79. Colton had a bridie on the par five eighth and also birdied the par four 14th hole.
Senior Josh Strausbaugh (Orlando, Fla./Lake Howell) played well for York as he notched an 81 as the Spartans' fourth scorer. Strausbaugh shot 40 on the front nine and 41 on the back.
The conditions were not conducive to scoring on the day as a heavy overnight rain left the course playing wet and long while a gusty wind greeted the players as the round progressed.
The Spartans return to the Bridges Sunday morning for round two of the 36-hole tournament. The action is slated for an 8:30 am start with all players going off hole number one.
