HARRISBURG, PA – The York College golf squad closed their 2013-14 regular season with a tenth place finish at the 15-team Messiah Falcon Classic on Wednesday afternoon at Blue Ridge Country Club in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The Millersville Marauders won the tournament with a team score of 316. Messiah finished second at 319. Stevenson (324) , Franklin & Marshall (327) and Immaculata (327) rounded out the top five in the tournament. York fired a team total of 343, their highest score of the campaign.
The Green and White went with their reserve lineup as none of the Spartans who went to last weekend's Capital Athletic Conference championship tournament participated on Wednesday.
York was paced by Josh Strausbaugh (Orlando, Fla./Lake Howell) as he carded a ten-over-par 82 to finished tied for 16th in the 76-player tournament. Travis Oot (Kirville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) was four back of Strausbaugh as he fired an 86. Austin Parker (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) shot an 87 as he tied for 43rd in the tournament. Tyler Keim (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) was one stroke back of Parker with an 88. Alex Colton (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) rounded out the Spartan competitors with a 97.
The tournament closes out the career of three Spartans as four-time All-CAC golfer Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas), Matt Storck (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) and Oot have played their final match for the Green and White. Long concludes his career with an average of 77.6 strokes per round. He finished with six sub-par rounds in 63 rounds in 52 events including 16 top five finishes.
Storck owned a career average of 83.9 while Oot's career average was 81.3 strokes per round in 38 career rounds.
The Spartans will return to action in September with the start of the 2014-15 regular season.
