Long Wins Fourth Career Title as Spartans Open Spring with Second Place Finish

ABBOTTSTOWN PA – York College junior golfer Kevin Long (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) opened his spring campaign in impressive fashion as he won the 2013 Gettysburg Spring Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartan squad finished in a three-way tie for second place in the 15-team tournament. York shot a 335 to finish five strokes back of team champion Messiah. The Spartans were tied with Gettysburg's "B" team and McDaniel.

Long shot a six-over-par 78 on the cold and windy day. He won the tournament by one stroke over Messiah's Matt Burkhart and Keystone's Matt Millan. The tournament championship is the fourth in Long's Spartan career. The junior won the Ursinus Invitational on April 20, 2011, the Messiah Fall Invitational on September 20, 2011, and was also the medalist in the York College Spring Invitational on March 26, 2012.

Sophomore David Boslough (Dalton, Pa./Lakawanna Trail) also registered a top-five finish for the Spartans as he fired an eight-over-par 80 to finish tied for fourth. That is his second career top five finish as a Spartan.

Junior Travis Oot (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) was York's third placer as he carded an 86 to finish tied for 30th while Matthew Storck (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) rounded out the Spartan scorers with a 91.

The Spartans are scheduled to return to action on Monday afternoon when they host the annual York College Spring Golf Invitational at the Out Door Country Club in York. The action is slated for a 12:00 pm shot gun start in York.
