YORK, PA – The York College golf squad captured their first tournament championship of the year as they won the 2011 York College Spring Invitational at the Out Door Country Club in York on Monday. The Spartans shot a team score of 306, besting Elizabethtown by two strokes. Penn State-Harrisburg shot a 310 while Albright finished fourth in the eight-team field with a score of 313.
Junior Adam Dupler paced the Spartans as he shot a two-over-par 74 to finish in fourth, three strokes back of Messiah's Matt Burkhart who finished with medalist's honors as he shot a one-under-par 71.
Fellow junior Andrew Schmehl finished tied for seventh as he shot a four-over-par 76. He was followed by three teammates as Adam Burkhart, Kevin Long, and Tyler Skovron each shot 78 to tie for 13th place.
The Spartans have played well in their two spring tournament with a second place finish and a team championship. York is averaging 303.5 during the spring after averaging 330 in their five fall tournaments.
The Spartans, who improve to 49-24-4 for the year, return to action on April 7 when they travel to the Elizabethtown Spring Invitational at the Hershey Country Club. The shot gun start is set for 12:00 pm.
