CARLISLE, PA – The York College golf squad opened the 2011 portion of their schedule on Monday with a second place finish at the Dickinson College Spring Invitational. The host Red Devils won the event with a team score of 295. The Spartans finished six strokes back with a team score of 301.
The 301 is the Spartans' best score of the season, besting their previous score of 323 at the Bent Creek Invitational in Lancaster, PA on October 11.
The Spartans were led by freshman Kevin Long as he carded a three-over-par 73, finishing three strokes back of individual medalist Arthur Worthington from Dickinson.
Freshman Tyler Skovron made his Spartan debut a successful one as he shot 75 to finish fifth while teammate Andrew Schmehl was one stroke back at 76. Junior Adam Dupler rounded out the Spartan scorers as he shot a 77, which tied him for seventh in the event.
The Spartans return to the course on Monday when they host the annual York Invitational at the Outdoor Country Club in York, PA. The shotgun start is slated for 1:00 pm.
