How It Happened:

• After the Spartans weathered an early storm from the Captain offense, York was able to build momentum and get on the board first. Dana Meehling blasted a shot from the outside that was initially saved by the Captain goalkeeper but Greta Plappert gathered the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead at the 23:39 mark of the first half.

• Only minutes before the halftime break, CNU was able to tie the score up 1-1 when Courtney Fiest shot the ball from the right side and Jackie Kotoriy was standing near the front of the goal and tipped the ball over the shoulder of the Spartan keeper.

• The majority of the second half was played in the midfield with the Spartans having trouble to generate any offensive opportunities while the Captains were knocking on the doorstep for a while. This time Courtney Fiest was on the scoring end as the took a shot from the right wing that went through multiple Spartan defenders and was able to find the back of the net with just 5:24 remaining in regulation that propelled the Captains to a 2-1 semifinal victory.
