HUNTINGDON, PA – The York College Spartans dropped their final non-conference contest of the year as they fell 5-1 at Juniata College on Tuesday afternoon in Huntingdon, PA.
The Spartans fall to 4-10 overall while the Eagles improve to 9-8 with the win.
Juniata jumped on the Spartans early and often. They opened the scoring with a Katie Landis goal just 2:48 into the game. Juniata added an Alison Groft goal just over seven minutes later. Sarah Bilheimer closed out the first half scoring with a goal at the 14:49 mark.
Juniata outshot the Spartans 15-1 in the opening 35 minutes. Spartan goalie Abby Baker (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) made seven saves while the Spartan defense was credited with three defensive saves.
The Eagles opened the second half scoring with another Bilheimer goal 2:56 into the stanza. York got on the board in the 43rd minute as Nancy Saylor (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) picked up an unassisted goal off a rebound of a Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyra) shot.
Juniata closed out the scoring on a Steph Pagliaro penalty stroke in the 55th minute.
The Eagles outshot the Spartans 24-9 with a whooping 21 of those shots coming on goal. Juniata also held a 7-3 margin in penalty corners.
Julianne Jones earned the win as she went the first 39:52 in cage for the Eagles. She was not forced to make a save to earn the victory. Shelby Miller played the final 30:08 and allowed the Spartan goal while she made two saves.
Baker notched 10 saves in 42:54 of work as she was under pressure all day long. She allowed four of the five Juniata goals. Brittany Alvarado (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) played the final 27:06 and made one save with one goal allowed.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Newport News, VA to face the Christopher Newport Captains in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
