Spartans Land Three on All-CAC Squad
YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey squad received excellent news Wednesday as a trio of Spartans were selected to the All-Capital Athletic Conference squad for the 2012 campaign. Danielle Gaitings (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the Spartans' contingent onto the 2012 all-star squad, earning a first-team berth, while Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyrna) and Ashton Burk (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) were chosen to the conference's second-team for their quality performances this season.
"These players were each very deserving of all conference honors," said head coach Jamie Swartz. "I am pleased that their efforts were recognized by the other coaches."
Gaitings, a senior defender, nabs her first All-CAC honor. This season, Gaitings was a strong base for the Spartan defense. She started in all 18 games for the Green and White. Gaitings finished the year with one goal and lead the team with five defensive saves. In her four-year career Gaitings has played in 73 games and scored two goals. She will go down in the record books tied for first place in career defensive saves with 18.
Fellow senior Burk also picks up her first All-CAC honor. For the 2012 season, Burk was a key player in the Spartan midfield. She started all 18 games for the Green and White and recorded 10 points. Burk scored two goals and tallied six assists and finished the season with 37 shots. During her three years on the York squad, Burk played in a total of 57 games. She scored two goals and recorded seven assists.
Junior forward Brewer joins her teammates in picking up first-time All-CAC honors. Brewer had an outstanding season as a forward for the Green and White. Brewer appeared in all but one game for the Spartans and made 16 starts. She was second in scoring with 19 total points. Brewer knocked in eight goals and tallied three assists. She also had three game-winning goals this year. So far in her career, Brewer has played in 55 games. She has scored 19 goals and recorded 12 assists for 50 points, as well as a total of five game-winning goals. Brewer will look to continue her success from this year into the 2013 season.
These three choices increase the Spartan program's total to 61 All-CAC honorees since their first selection back in 1994.
