Spartans Finish Out Regular Season With 5-0 Triumph

YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey team closed out their regular season with a decisive 5-0 road victory over conference opponent Hood College.  The Spartans improve to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the Capital Athletic Conference, which makes them the fourth seed heading into the conference tournament.  Hood falls to 3-12 overall and 0-7 in the CAC as they fail to qualify for postseason play.

In a stellar offensive effort, the Green and White posted a pair of goals in the first half of play.  The first tally was registered by Sandee Reich as she was assisted on the play by sophomore forward Kailey Brewer who moves into a tie for fourth in the conference with eight assists.  The second tally of the first half was an unassisted goal scored by senior captain Brittany Simmons who now has two goals in the last two games for the Spartans.

York kept their foot on the throttle in the second half as they posted three more tallies.  Once again Reich started off the scoring as she posted her second goal of the contest and 15th for the season, which puts her in fifth place in the CAC.  Sophomore forward Madi Wilt tallied her eighth goal of the season as she knocked in an unassisted goal nine minutes into the second half.  The Spartans finished out their offensive barrage in the 60th minute when Leah Hunsinger punched in her third goal of the season after receiving a helper from Jayme Goldkind.

The Green and White dominated the score sheet as they posted a 28-5 margin in shots and held a 20-7 edge in penalty corners.  For the season, the Spartans have out-shot their opponents 299-159 and maintained a 193-111 advantage in penalty corners.

Winning goalkeeper Alanna Curtis totaled two saves and her fourth shutout of the season as she improves her record to 7-6.  Blazer goalkeeper Ashley Stennett picks up the loss, but managed to turn away 12 Spartan shots throughout the contest.

York will return home as they will host the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.  The Spartans will face the visiting Seahawks of St. Mary's on Sunday, October 25, in a 2:00 pm contest.
